About Us: It all started here.

Hurricane Katrina is the reason our bike shop exists.
This is Lakeview, the New Orleans neighborhood where I grew up. On Monday, August 29th, 2005, Katrina hit New Orleans,  pushing a wall of saltwater against improperly anchored federal flood protection levees. Sections of these levees failed, causing seawater to pour in, flooding most of the city and shorting out the pumping system.
I was a self-employed IT pro and had evac'd with my computers intact. Sadly most of my customers were not so fortunate, loosing everything save their lives. Wondering what I could do to help people with their health and sanity, I turned to my personal passion - bicycling.

Having discovered folding bicycles in the 1990's, I reasoned that, in a disaster, folding bikes and motor vehicles worked well together, the bike providing alternate transportation when fuel is unavailable, etc.

Thus, our bike shop started as a small online store offering reasonably priced bicycles which made good emergency transportation. Over time, we grew into a full service bike shop in the heart of New Orleans' oldest neighborhood (the French Quarter) that catered to the daily needs of locals, tourists and shoppers online. Now, we even lead tours abroad (see our upcoming guided tour to Europe in late July AND in early September) upcoming tours at the bottom of this page).

By the way, in the adjacent YouTube video, the scene at 3:29 in the timeline was shot 1 block from our bike shop and is why we have such a strong focus on folding bikes to this day. In water that deep, car's don't have a chance but you can still pedal a bike. With global climate change worsening, events like this will only continue.
